“I love my sister too! We had some more important documents to go over.

“I got marker on my fat little hands which warranted a baff. I’ll take any excuse for a baff!”
20130423-175022.jpg

“Well, hello there, little fella! My name is Nornor! Do you like baffs too!?”
20130423-175028.jpg

“Sup?”
20130423-175034.jpg

“Yes, I was!”

“Later that evening the grown ups went out to celebrate Uncle Dustin’s birthday at Nada. I wasn’t there but I heard they had a great time and loved meeting Uncle Dustin’s family!!! I hope I get to meet them too! Happy Birthday, Uncle Dustin!!!!”

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Monday

“I guess it’s time to get out of the toaster and get dressed….”
20130423-175111.jpg

“There’s this really pretty baby that lives in my mirror. I really like looking at her. She’s a total copy cat though….”
20130423-175117.jpg

“Mommy thinks that copy cat baby is really cute too, but I can tell Mommy thinks I’m the cutest.”
20130423-175124.jpg

“Check out my side-mullet. My Uncle Dan will be proud!”
20130423-175129.jpg

“I don’t know how I missed out on this trip to the beauty parlor (er… Supercuts) with my sister!!! I’m thinking about maybe getting a permanent.”

Tuesday

Poor Norns got 2 shots at her one-year checkup. She weighed in at a hefty 16 lbs. 2 oz! Dr. B. was very pleased with how she is doing!

All that commotion made for a worn out baby girl!!!
20130423-224708.jpg

Despite the possibility of fussiness, fevers, etc. on account of the shots, Nora woke up extremely happy!

We have decided to make a change to her formula. The Similac Soy seems to cause her a lot of discomfort after feedings. It’s not lengthy crying episodes, but enough to explore the possibility of making a change. We are trying out Nutramigen. It’s kinda stinky, but other than that she’s doing well with it. Ordinarily we would switch to whole milk – or milk alternative at Nora’s age, but she isn’t getting other sources of nutrition with solids as other babies are at her age. We are still working on that and now have a speech therapist involved to assist us. Nornor has an aversion to anything with texture. The textures set off her dramatic gag reflex and then we wind up with pukes all over the place. There are a series of massaging techniques that we are doing around her mouth to stimulate her lips and tongue. She did allow me to feed her some delicious whip cream off of her spoon the other day! That was a big step! We may just bypass the rice cereal altogether and go straight to the stage 1 baby foods which have barely any texture to them. Wednesday we are going to try carrots!

The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.
(Psalm 126:3 NIV)

  1. Whipped cream… SMART GIRL!!!! 😉
Love Greta’s new do- tell her she looks adorable!
    Have a HAPPY day!!!
    ❤ Lisa

  2. i’ve never commented before, but i have followed your blog for some time now. we were on nutramagin with my son who is 9 weeks old, and boy does it stink. unfortunately, it was not sensitive enough for him and he’s on neocate now. i’m thankful for that because those burps, spit ups and stinky diapers were enough to make the strongest of stomachs gag!

  3. Kamryn couldn’t handle anything with texture. We skipped baby food all together and when straight to mushy whole foods. It took 4 to 6 extra months on mostly formula. Now she’s on pediasure and real food. Her quick gag reflex has not left, but she is in control of when somthing goes down. This all takes more time and a lot of patients.
What a joy it is to see Nora looking so good and so healthy.

  4. Nora has the sweetest brother and sister! Just love how Nora is always on top of the time! We will never have to worry about her being late for anything. lol

  5. You have the sweetest family. Nora is so lucky to have a brother and sister to sit and color with her and chat. I know you are already doing this, but let me remind you, cherish every precious moment with those 3 angels. They grow up sooo fast. The big ones will be off to college before you know it!….Can you tell I’m getting ready for a graduation?

  6. Woohoo, 8 kg and starting with baby food !!
In my eyes she’s still a baby, but she needs to begin with vegetables and fruits. 🙂 I would avoid “normal” milk as much as possible because of lactose.
Love her hair and Greta’s haircut!!. The pics with Gavin are adorable. The 3 of them are so cute and sweet !!.
    Love you all. Muuuahhh

P.S: happy belated birthday to Dustin ( did the doggies miss the party ???)

  7. Awesome!! To heck with that rice – sure hope baby foods #1 work. Love you Miss Nora. CONGRATS on turning the BIG ONE! And, hugs to all of you.

  8. A friend of mine has a baby with trisomy 21 and she has a very sensitive tummy with many feeding issues. They feed her this formula http://www.naturesone.com/lactorelief/ from Nature’s One. She also shared that they offer a 30 % discount due to “medical hardship” which trisomy 18 would also fall under. She said they are really great on the phone and will send free samples for you to try. Just thought I’d pass that along. My friend’s name is Nora. Ironic, isn’t it? You could contact her to hear her side of the story. Her email is beaulieu@zoomtown.com. Hope you find the right thing for your sweet baby girl!

  9. She IS getting so big – love the pics! One more thing to consider in addressing the feeding sensitivities is a consultation with a pediatric occupational therapist with a specialty in feeding/sensory defensiveness. Hope the new formula works out well!

  10. HI TO ALL!!!! LOVE THE PICTURES OF GAVIN AND NORA. THE ONE OF GAVIN KISSING HIS BABY SISTER’S CHEEK IS PRICELESS. THAT PICTURE YOU TOOK OF NORA WITH THE MIRROR IN THE BACKGROUND IS SOOOOOO GOOD. SHE IS JUST REALLY A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE GIRL. ALSO LOVE THE ONE OF YOU AND NORA. YOU LOOK SO GOOD IN THAT COLOR TOP. I LOVE GRETA’S NEW HAIR CUT. GRETA YOU LOOK LIKE A PRINCESS WITH THAT NEW HAIR STYLE. NORA IN HER LITTLE JOGGING SUIT MAKES HER LOOK LIKE SHE IS GETTING READY FOR THE RACE. ALSO THE LITTLE ONESI THAT SHE HAS ON IS REALLY CUTE. A SPECIAL OUTFIT FOR A VERY SPECIAL LITTLE GIRL. NICE PICTURE OF THE VERY BIG THREE BIRDS. GOOD LUCK WITH CHANGING NORA ON OTHER TYPES OF FOOD, I WILL BE PRAYING THAT ALL WORKS FOR HER, AND THAT SHE LOVES THE NEW TASTE. HOPE YOU ALL ARE SLEEPING REALLY GOOD RIGHT NOW, AND THAT IS JUST WHERE I AM HEADING ALSO. I LOVE YOU ALL. GOOD NIGHT AND GOD BLESS.
