Nora – 25 Days Old

Nora thoroughly enjoyed a lengthy bath in the sunshine this morning. I can’t get enough of those sweet moments! Here are some more incidences of sweetness throughout the day:

After several inquests from family members and friends regarding yesterday’s video, I feel that I need to clear the air, so to speak. The suspicious sound at the end of the video was NOT Nora or anyone else passing gas. There is construction going on in the basement (which was right beneath us). I shut the camera off before the rest of the uproarious drill solo ensued.

Anyway…

I was excited to see a particular photo in a batch of photos my sister Sarah sent to me the other day from Nora’s birth. I stared at the picture for a few minutes, smiling and remembering. Shortly after Nora was born I was praying, conversing with God. I was feeling particularly afraid at that point and needed reassurance that God was still right there with us. I didn’t doubt it, I just needed a God hug. I asked to see a bird outside of my window, which wasn’t an extraordinary request, but I had yet to see any birds since we’d been in that room. It wasn’t until the next morning that I happened to glance out the window. I just started laughing at what I saw. God, having authored my wacky sense of humor, sent me my hug and made me laugh too. He could have sent a “typical” pigeon, grackle, etc. but God is anything but “typical”.

At first I just saw a goose head peek up over the side of the building. That happened several times before it jumped up on the ledge, standing there in all of its goose glory! There were two of them perched up on different parts of the building! I can’t say that I’ve ever seen a Canada goose perched up on a building at any time in my life! That was really cool! I thought I’d let the moment pass without taking a picture, and was so glad to see that Sarah hadn’t missed the opportunity!

Our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share on our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. (2 Corinthians 1:7 NIV)

I know God shares in our laughter too!

  1. LOVE the goose story- I do that kind of thing all the time, asking God for little signs…He is so faithful and I love that you got a picture ! πŸ™‚ too funny, I’m going to share this with my husband so he can use it in his Mother’s Day sermon…God knew your mama heart needed that goose! Happy Mother’s Day. oxox

  2. When my son had heart surgery I was feeling panicky. I never ask for signs but I said I sure could use one just now… and…. I was told to go outside. Not one to disobey I walked outside… and loe and behold a TRIPPLE rainbow. I didn’t worry again. My son came out of heart surgery A-OKAY and he is now 2 year post op and doing great! I still cry thinking of that day though and the only tripple rainbow I have ever seen! God is pretty surprising sometimes. And he is anything but ordinary! LOL.

  3. Oh that is soooo funny about the geese! I haven’t seen any goose perched on the top of a building before either! Love God’s humor and that he made that moment funny and more importantly, very hard to forget. πŸ™‚

Thanks for sharing…the pictures of your sweet tiny daughter are darling.

  4. Wow… Do you know the symbolism of the goose? This pretty much sums it up:
The animal symbolism of the goose hasn’t got its full honor. Too often in myth and lore we see the goose representing silly attitudes or lazy dispositions.

On the contrary, the symbolism of the goose is quite inspiring.

When we consider the goose never leaves one of its own kind behind, we begin to see the goose in a different light. Just like the US Marines, “Semper Fidelis” (always faithful) is the motto of the goose too.

Geese annually migrate to warmer climates during the winter. Should a goose become injured during this trek, another goose will leave the migrating flock to stay with its fallen comrade. The goose will stay with the injured until he has recovered or until its final breath. Nothing silly about that.

Indeed, this kind of valor puts the symbolism of the goose in a far different light. Here are some attributes of the goose:

    Communication
    Determination
    Fellowship
    Teamwork
    Confidence
    Protection
    Bravery
    Loyalty

Geese are incredibly gifted navigators and instinctively know the way across the long haul to warmer climates. They forge ahead with confidence and bravery.

Further, geese have intricate methods of communication – not only do they sense when their brethren are in trouble, they also work as a team to communicate warnings, as well as messages of prime landing sites.

Geese are also fiercely protective of their young – often presenting an impressive thrashing display to would-be predators. These scare tactics often work to protect goslings from attack.

Those who have the goose as their animal totem need not worry if they are silly or lazy. This is far from the truth. In actuality, those who are kind, loyal, and brave-hearted attract geese as their totem. Those with the goose totem are the clear communicators, true-blue defenders and compassionate keepers of the community.

Lessons we all can learn from our totem geese include:

Remember your roots – don’t forget the people who helped you along the way
Follow your gut – rely on intuition and instinct in order to get where you need to be
Communicate your needs to others – no one can help you if you don’t speak out
Protect that which is most valuable, but make sure you have your priorities straight (meaning, be sure you’re protecting that which is worth protecting)

Pretty fitting, don’t you think? πŸ™‚

    • Thank you for the inspiring facts about the goose. Being involved in the marriage ministry I have grown a love for the goose. Geese mate for life. Anytime I see a goose that has gone to heaven my heart breaks for the mate.

  5. I love that goose! How awesome is our God, He is the Creator of Heaven and Earth and sly that inhabit, When we have a true intimate relationship with Him, He can move move Heaven and Earth for us, but He is God, and loves us so much He shows us in the mist intimate ways! What a goose, I find it so comforting, and it’s great to know He has a sense of humor:)
Happy Mothers Day, thanks to you that has way more meaning and depth from now on!
